Parkland County is proud of our agricultural past and is committed to sustainable environmental and agricultural practices. The Agricultural Services department supports farming and rural communities with programs that include weed control, roadside mowing, and alternative land use.

  • Waste Reduction in Agriculture

    The agriculture sector creates an estimated 61,754 tonnes of single use plastic per year in Canada alone. This plastic ends up in our landfills, which leads to air pollution and groundwater contamination. Recycling waste materials is crucial for diverting plastic and hazardous substances away from landfills. Recycling also promotes a circular economy, which can stabilize supply chains, lower production costs, and create thousands of sustainable jobs.

  • Solar in Parkland County

    Parkland County residents are sitting on a bright opportunity. With Alberta’s famously sunny skies (Alberta and Saskatchewan are the sunniest locations in Canada!) — solar power is becoming an increasingly practical way to cut energy bills and reduce emissions.

  • Pond Days 2026 Event Wrap Up

    Environmental and Agricultural Services' Pond Days events have brought another year of outdoor learning in Parkland County. From Wednesday, May 27, to Friday, May 29, students from grade four and five classes had the opportunity to participate in interactive learning stations set up at the Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area.

    As a proud resident of Parkland County, Susan Schafers’ family has been farming in the Holborn area for over 60 years. For the past 10, Susan’s served on the County’s Agricultural Services Board (ASB), sharing her experience and expertise for the benefit of the County’s agricultural sector and community.
