August 2024 - Spring Lake Community Clean Up

Photo Gallery: FireSmart - Spring Lake will appear here on the public site.

Residents of the Village of Spring Lake recently took part in a community clean up event as they work toward becoming a FireSmart recognized neighbourhood.

The event kicked off with an info session on the FireSmart program – its principles, why they are important, and how they can be applied. After a BBQ lunch, the residents and a crew from Parkland County Fire Services got to work by clearing out a local wooded trail of debris and vegetation while trimming trees. The result is a beautiful natural area, that is more resilient to wildland fire, and can be enjoyed by all.

Next steps for Spring Lake team is to form a committee and create a mitigation plan alongside their current hazard map of the area, which they can submit with an application to be a FireSmart Recognized Neighbourhood. This designation focuses on bringing neighbours together to address threats on their own properties as well as common areas in the community.
