Parkland County introduces Home Energy Efficiency Kits

Parkland County, in partnership with Parkland County Libraries, is offering residents a new hands-on way to better understand how their homes use energy and identify opportunities to reduce utility costs and improve comfort.

Home Energy Efficiency Kits are now available for loan and include practical tools to test different aspects of your home’s performance, such as heat loss, appliance usage, and indoor air quality. The kits can be borrowed through the Duffield, Entwistle, Keephills, and Wabamun Libraries, as well as the Parkland County Centre, with five kits currently available.

Each kit includes a range of easy-to-use tools, including:

  • Thermal scanners to help identify drafts and areas where heat may be escaping
  • Wattmeters to measure how much electricity appliances use
  • Fridge and freezer thermometers to ensure appliances are running efficiently
  • Thermometers and hygrometers to monitor temperature and humidity levels
  • Air quality monitors to track indoor air venitlation and filtration
  • Radon detectors to help identify potential health concerns in the home

In addition to the tools, each kit includes a manual with practical suggestions for improving comfort and reducing energy use. These include small, no, or low-cost actions residents can take right away, as well as optional ideas for larger upgrades for those interested.

The Home Energy Efficiency Kit program is funded by the FortisAlberta Save Energy Program and is part of Parkland County’s ongoing efforts to provide residents with practical resources and information.
