Redistricting
Redistricting is a type of Land Use Bylaw amendment that changes the land use district assigned to a parcel of land. As districts are sometimes referred to as zones or designations in other municipalities, redistricting is also sometimes called rezoning or redesignation. A property may need to be redistricted if a proposed land use is not allowed within the current district or if a different district is needed to support a proposed subdivision or development.
In addition to redistricting, Land Use Bylaw amendments may include changes to bylaw text, definitions, development regulations, overlays, or other provisions of the Land Use Bylaw.
Council is the approval authority for redistricting and other Land Use Bylaw amendments. This is because any amendment to the LUB requires a bylaw amendment, and only Council has the authority to pass or refuse bylaws. Before making a decision, Council holds a public hearing to provide an opportunity for the public to share their views and ensure that all relevant information is considered.
