Area Structure Plans
Area Structure Plans (ASPs) outline detailed policies for growth and future land use designations of specific areas of the County.
Conceptual Schemes
A Conceptual Scheme is a technical document that provides a snapshot of the development and provides additional details required in support of an application.
Land Use Bylaw
The Land Use Bylaw (LUB) regulates development activities within Parkland County with the goal of ensuring that neighbouring land uses are compatible and that what one person does on their property does not negatively impact their neighbours.
Municipal Development Plan
The Municipal Development Plan (MDP), is a high-level guiding document that sets broad visions and goals for how development will occur in the County.
Policies
Parkland County approves, amends, or rescinds policies that set discretionary duties or standards of performance for Parkland County.
Regional Planning
Parkland County is required under Alberta’s Municipal Government Act (MGA) to establish Intermunicipal Collaboration Frameworks (ICFs) and Intermunicipal Development Plans (IDPs) with neighbouring municipalities.
Land Use Planning Hierarchy and Decisions Flow Chart
Land use planning in Alberta must follow plans and regulations at both the provincial and municipal levels of government. The planning hierarchy refers to the legislative and policy framework that guides planning and development decisions in Alberta.
As illustrated in the diagram below, plans, bylaws, and approvals at lower levels of the hierarchy must be consistent with those above them.
