Trap-Neuter-Return Program: Managing Unowned Cat Populations
In collaboration with the Edmonton Humane Society (EHS), Parkland County is currently participating in the Trap-Neuter-Return Program (TNR) to manage local populations of unowned cats. The TNR initiative aims to reduce the number of free-roaming cats in a humane and effective way.
The purpose of TNR is to prevent the increase of unowned kittens by humanely trapping, spaying or neutering, vaccinating, ear-tipping for identification, and returning the cats to their original location. This controls overpopulation while allowing cats to remain living outdoors where they are most comfortable. The partnership between Parkland County and EHS allows for measured results, access to required resources, and a lasting impact on unowned cat populations. This program also supports residents impacted by local cat colonies.
