Recruitment Open for Paid On-Call Firefighters

No experience? No problem.

Parkland County Fire Services is looking for community-minded residents to answer the call and join its team as paid-on-call firefighters. 

Applications for the 2026 recruitment are now open, with opportunities available at the Acheson, Parkland Village, Wabamun, and Tomahawk fire stations. 

Parkland County provides recruits with training, equipment, and the support they need to get started. Recruits are also paid for their time spent training and responding to emergencies. 

Paid-on-call firefighters come from all walks of life. Some work full time, attend school or are raising a family. Others may simply be looking for a meaningful new way to get involved in their community. 

What matters is a willingness to learn, work as part of a team and be there when the community needs you. 

“I started my career as a paid-on-call firefighter right here in Parkland County, so I know firsthand how meaningful this opportunity can be,” said Parkland County Fire Chief Robert Malchow. “You don’t need firefighting experience to get started. We’re looking for people who are willing to learn, work hard and be part of a team. It’s a rewarding way to serve your community while building skills and relationships that stay with you for years to come.”
