Celebrate Seniors This June!
Seniors Week is coming up from June 1 to 7, and in Parkland County, we’re celebrating all month long! The Tri-Municipal Region will be hosting a variety of events, with Seniors Shuttle rides available for free to Parkland County seniors.

Senior’s Strawberry Tea
Date: Tuesday, June 2
Sitting #1: 10:00 a.m., doors open at 9:30 a.m.
Sitting #2: 1:00 p.m., doors open at 12:30 p.m.
Location: Black Box Theatre inside Heavy Metal Place (50 Westwind Drive, Spruce Grove)

Older, Bolder, Better!™ Exhibition & Symposium
Date: Thursday, June 4, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Location: River Cree Casino & Resort

Intergenerational Conference
Date: Friday, June 19, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: The Max Center at Frank Maddock High School, Drayton Valley

The month of June also includes World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15; an important time for reflection and education. Join us in raising awareness about elder abuse and discovering ways to support older adults in our community at one of the following events:
Elder Abuse Awareness

Tomahawk Farm Days
Date: June 20, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
Location: Tomahawk, Alberta

Purple petunias and awareness garden signs will be available for pickup at these events so you can help raise awareness at home by planting an Uproot Abuse awareness garden or flowerbed this summer.

Family Activity Kits will also be available and include material to grow your own purple bean plant at home, as well as information to support parents and caregivers in having discussions with children about the important of having positive interactions with older adults.
Additional Resources
SeniorConnect is a free, online training program that teaches residents how to recognize and respond to seniors in need. Open to all residents in the Tri-Municipal Region, the program is an excellent way to work together to help seniors find local information, resources, and support.
