Provincial budget pledges support for key County transportation projects

The Government of Alberta’s 2026 Budget confirms continued investment in two major transportation projects in Parkland County: improvements to Highway60 and Highway16, both essential to regional safety and economic growth.

Highway60 Twinning and Overpass Advancing - $116 Million Provincial Investment in the County over Three Years

The Highway60 project includes twinning the section between Highways16 and16A and constructing a rail overpass to reduce delays and improve safety along this key trade corridor. These upgrades will better support the heavy and highload traffic serving the Acheson Industrial Area one of Alberta’s most important key economic engines.

Highway16 Improvements Moving to Design Phase - $20 Million Provincial Investment in the County in Budget 2026

The Province has also reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Highway16 improvements, with detailed design scheduled to begin in 2026 on a new interchange at Range Road 20. Planned upgrades will enhance safety and improve traffic flow along this highspeed corridor. The funding includes a short-term commitment to construct intersection improvements at RR20 and Hwy 16A.

Parkland County Mayor Rod Shaigec welcomed the budget announcement and thanked the Government of Alberta for their pledged support.

“These investments are crucial for ensuring safer travel and supporting the people and industries that rely on our highways every day,” said Mayor Shaigec. “On behalf of the County, I express our sincere appreciation and look forward to continued collaboration as these projects move ahead.”
