Progress on Intersection Safety Improvements, Highway 16/16A and Range Road 20

Parkland County, AB - Parkland County is pleased to share upcoming improvements to two key intersections that will address safety concerns in both the short and long term. The County has been actively engaged with the Alberta Department of Transportation and Economic Corridors, urging action in response to serious traffic safety concerns raised by residents.

The Government of Alberta will be proceeding with design engineering for an interchange at the intersection of Highway 16 and Range Road 20. This is part of the long-term comprehensive planning for Highway 16 that will limit direct access to Highway 16 between the City of Edmonton and Highway 43. The Government of Alberta will review if further improvements will be needed at the intersection of Highway 16A and Range Road 20 to accommodate this new nearby interchange. In the interim, traffic signals will be installed at the existing intersection of 16A and Range Road 20, with installation planned for 2026.

“Parkland County Council wants residents to know that your concerns with these intersections remain a top priority,” said Parkland County Mayor Rod Shaigec. “We are pleased that the Province has listened to our safety concerns and improvements are on the way. I look forward to further discussion with the Province and further updates on these crucial projects.”
