WABAMUN, AB — Parkland County is ready to unveil the newly revitalized Waterfront Park in Wabamun with a Grand Opening event at 10:00 a.m. on September 20th. The festivities kick-off with a ribbon cutting followed by a day that’s packed with entertainment including live music, a family fun zone, a vendor market, cultural presentations, children’s performers, a free BBQ lunch, and more!
The Waterfront Park improvements, which include the installation of an updated playground and splash park, expanded beach area, upgraded pier, and covered stage, were funded through the Government of Canada via Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan) under the Canada Coal Transition Initiative (CCTI).
“The revitalization of Waterfront Park shows how strong public spaces help communities grow right here in Alberta,” said the Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada. “This project will attract visitors, create opportunities for local businesses, and offer residents a welcoming waterfront — helping Wabamun thrive for years to come. Congratulations to Parkland County and the Hamlet of Wabamun for bringing it to life.”
Parkland County identified Wabamun as a premier recreation destination and has been investing in the area to provide residents with improved facilities while boosting business attraction and tourism.
“We’re excited to unveil the hard work our team have put into providing residents and visitors with the opportunity to further enjoy the natural beauty of Wabamun lake,” says Mayor Allan Gamble. “The revitalization of Waterfront Park will boost local tourism and development. We’ve already begun to see this happening in the community; businesses are growing and improving their storefronts – they’re open for business and ready for visitors.”
The Waterfront Park revitalization is a two-stage process with the second stage that includes a marina and swimming pond to be completed in 2027 which will further attract tourism and drive economic development in the area.
“Parkland County is grateful for the funding received from our federal partner, PrairiesCan,” says Mayor Allan Gamble. “Investments such as these stimulate the economy and strengthen our communities as we move forward in new economic pathways.”
