Parkland County Receives Wawanesa Community Wildfire Prevention Grant

Parkland County is excited to be one of 12 communities across Canada receiving the Wawanesa Community Wildfire Prevention Grants in 2024. These grants will fund a local project to help increase our resilience to wildfires through risk reduction and prevention activities. Thank you Wawanesa Canada, FireSmart Canada and the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction for selecting Parkland County as a recipient!

“Parkland County is committed to supporting residents in reducing their home’s vulnerability to wildfire. Through the Wawanesa Community Wildfire Prevention Grant, we can further broaden the impact of these efforts by acquiring a variety of tools and equipment that residents can access during FireSmart Neighbourhood cleanup events in their communities. This will empower neighbours to work together and make tangible improvements towards greater wildfire resilience in Parkland County.”

-Parkland County Mayor Allan Gamble

This project will see community clean up events to engage residents to clear combustible materials and maintain firebreaks to reduce the risk of fires to homes and properties. By collaborating with local volunteers, community groups, and environmental organizations, the Parkland community will foster a culture of proactive prevention and community engagement.
