PARKLAND COUNTY PASSES BUDGET 2024

Parkland County Council has approved the operational and capital budget for 2024, keeping tax increases low and predictable while continuing to maintain service levels and fund important investments in regional growth and infrastructure with a 2.9% increase to the municipal tax rate.

What does this mean for County residents? The impact of the increase to the municipal tax rate will be only $5.25 per month* for a property assessed at $500,000.

“Parkland County has been diligent to ensure that we continue to rank among the most competitive property taxes in the Edmonton metro region,” said Mayor Allan Gamble. “I’m proud of the work we have done to make significant investments in the County’s future, including in strategic areas to attract investment, promote tourism and support vital infrastructure. Parkland County remains a place where people and businesses can grow and prosper.”

Budget 2024 empowers Parkland County to confront the challenges of declining linear property assessment, a tight labour market, high inflation, and significant cost sharing pressures. Through financial diligence, the County has maintained high Net Financial Assets of nearly $84 million, and the County’s debt utilization will be 32% of total allowable debt, a 2% decrease from last year.

The final municipal tax rate for 2024 will be approved in April 2024. Alberta municipal property tax notices include items beyond the municipal requirement reflected in the budget presented to Council, including the seniors requisitions and the school portion of property taxes, which the County collects on behalf of the province.

Parkland County remains in a stable fiscal position and continues to rank among the lowest residential and non-residential property tax rates in the Edmonton Region. Learn more about the 2024 Parkland County Operating and Capital Budget.

*Note: The impact of the 2.9% municipal tax rate increase on property owners will depend on how their property’s assessed value may fluctuate due to changes including improvements, market conditions and inflation.
