Manfred Kanehl from Parkland County was inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame

Manfred Kanehl from Parkland County was posthumously inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame this past week for advancing and growing the province’s agriculture industry. He was nominated by Parkland County’s Agricultural Service Board and his daughter Susan accepted the honour on his behalf.

On Jan. 29, the 41st induction ceremony took place at the Reynolds Museum in Wetaskiwin. Up to three Albertans are inducted every two years and the 2024 inductees are being honoured for their advocacy, leadership and pioneering spirit in advancing the province’s agriculture and food industry.

In the early 1990s, Manfred championed food safety advancements within the Canadian egg industry. His efforts led to the development of the Start Clean – Stay Clean on-farm food safety program, launched nationally by Egg Farmers of Canada and still in use today.

Manfred’s passion and commitment to animal care and welfare extended beyond the farm and egg industry. His daughter Susan took over the family farm after his passing in 2021, becoming a leader in the industry and chair of Alberta Egg Producers.
