Local Artist Brie Adkins Unveils New Art Installation at Entwistle Public Library

With support from the Champions of the Parkland County Libraries Society, this year, local artist Brie Adkins stepped outside of her comfort zone and started a new project — her first ever interactive art installation titled Book Portal, Vol. 1.
While you may not know Brie Adkins by name, if you’re a resident of Entwistle, you’ve probably noticed the murals around town. Many of the murals, like the mural on Entwistle Community Hall, were completed by Adkins.
Book Portal, Vol. 1 was made especially for Entwistle Public Library, and it’s one of a kind. With its interactive spinning wheel of artwork, this installation simulates the experience of a portal and invites visitors to step into different fictional worlds.
“I loved the idea of portals because you can walk through a portal and get transported somewhere else,” said Adkins. “I feel like when you open up a book that happens too.”
Adkins’ installation is now a standout feature of the Entwistle Public Library, but Adkins creates more than just art, she also creates community.
“I’m always trying to help my community connect with art more,” Adkins shared. “To paint a mural is one thing, but art is almost like a tool for other things too — like community engagement, connecting with people, or telling a story.”
Over the course of her career as an artist, Adkins has raised nearly $10,000 for art education in Parkland County and continues to bring her community together through collaborative art projects.
“The community shows up in a lot of ways,” Adkins adds. “I always feel extremely supported.”
Congratulations on the new art installation, Brie! We can’t wait to see what you create next. To see Book Portal, Vol. 1 in action, visit Entwistle Public Library on 4916 51 Street.
