Dog Rescued from 50-foot Tree by Parkland County Fire Services

A family’s holiday getaway took an unexpected turn when their playful pup, Tigger, ended up stuck 50 feet up in a tree after chasing a squirrel on their Wabamun property. Thanks to the quick and heroic efforts of Parkland County firefighters, the one-year-old Coonhound Cross was safely rescued, much to the relief and gratitude of her owner, Sasha Marks.

Tigger’s name, originating from A.A. Milne's "Winnie the Pooh" series, was chosen by the Marks family after observing the bouncy and happy persona of their Coonhound Cross pupNow a year old, weighing 45 pounds, and showcasing a lovely coat of stripes, Tigger lived up to her name and created quite the scene for her owner Sasha this holiday season after chasing her obsession with squirrels to new heights

In the message sent by owner Sasha Marks to Parkland County, she offered a play by play of the events that took place, while also sending her praise of the outstanding efforts of our Fire Department.

Sasha said, “I was alone at our cabin at Wabamun and went to take my dog, Tigger, for a walk. She was only out of my sight for a minute and when I went to find her I saw this.”

“Tigger must have chased a squirrel about 50 feet up a massive tree. There were no neighbours, so I called my husband who was skiing in Jasper with our boys. He said to call the non-emergency line. The Fire Department ended up coming out and rescued her. She was up there for over an hour and came part way back down on her own. She was very happy to be rescued.”

Quickly garnering media attention, the safe and efficient services of our Fire Department ensured that Tigger reached the ground quickly and without any injuries. Grateful for the prompt action of the Parkland County Fire Services, Sasha said, "Thank you once again for your outstanding service and for making a positive impact in our community. Your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed."

Our team was proud to help the Marks family rescue their fun-loving Tigger, and happy to help Sasha Marks have a wonderful New Year's celebration with all her family members, safe and sound.
