Declaration of Agricultural Disaster - Extreme Loss of Honey Production

The MD of Smokey River's letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Honourable RJ Sigurdson, has noted that there is a significant impact on honey producers in the Peace Region due to poor Canola crop.

The Agricultural Service Board Provincial Committee has declared that poor Canola crop in the Peace region is equal to, " ... losses between 60-90 per cent of average annual production ...".  As a significant source of pollen for honeybees, the loss of Canola, along with the shorter flowering season, and other environmental factors, are contributing to the loss.
