Broadband Update - September 2025

Equitable access to reliable and affordable broadband remains a top priority for Parkland County, and we’re pursuing a long-term strategy to deliver improvements to our region’s connectivity. Recent actions we have or are currently undertaking include:

·       Infrastructure funding through the federally administered Universal Broadband Fund

·       A Wireless Internet Rebate Program

·       County-wide speed testing to improve rural internet planning

·       Establishing fibre services in Entwistle

·       Continued advocacy to all levels of government to support the expansion of broadband infrastructure in our rural areas.

An update on the County’s broadband strategy was presented to Council at the September 2, 2025 Governance and Priorities meeting and can be viewed on the County website (time 16:10) or the County’s YouTube channel (time 19:50).

Recently, several fibre expansion projects have progressed throughout the County, including:

  • XPLORE fibre installation in the Spring Lake and Glory Lake areas, part of a planned expansion of nearly 300km of fibre by 2027.
  • ROHL fibre installation of approximately 3kms of fibre around Range Road 20 between Highway 16 and Township Road 534.
  • Missing Link installation of approximately 20km of fibre lines in the Gainford area and along Isle Lake.

The County will continue to advocate for access to reliable and affordable broadband access with service providers and at every level of government.
