Bill Purdy Recognized for Significant County Contributions

Council and Fire Chief Brian Cornforth presented Auxiliary Assistant Chief Bill Purdy with the King Charles III’s Coronation Medal on December 11, 2024.

Bill’s recognition is not only for this prestigious medal but also for his milestone achievement with Parkland County, reflecting an incredible legacy of dedication to fire services and our community, serving residents of Parkland County since 1964. Bill is an amazing example of professionalism, leadership and service, and we are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition.

A founding member of the Wabamun Fire Department, Bill has played an integral role in building a strong foundation for fire safety and emergency response in our community. His influence extends far beyond Parkland County through his impactful service as Executive Director of the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association, where he championed meaningful advancements for fire services across Alberta.

Throughout his tenure, Bill has demonstrated exceptional leadership in every role he has undertaken, including as Fire Chief of the Wabamun Fire Department and now as Auxiliary Assistant Chief with Parkland County Fire Services. His professionalism and steadfast commitment have been a guiding force in enhancing safety and preparedness for over six decades.

During major emergencies, Bill has been a vital presence, providing indispensable leadership in some of the most challenging incidents in Parkland County’s history, including the Wabamun Lake oil spill, the Duffield wildland fire, and the Gainford train derailment. His expertise, calm under pressure, and dedication have been invaluable to his team and the community.

The King’s Coronation Medal is a commemorative honour awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities, professions, or organizations during the reign of King Charles III. This medal recognizes exemplary service, dedication, and leadership across various sectors, including public service, emergency services, and volunteerism. For Bill Purdy, this medal is a fitting tribute to his lifetime of service.
