TransAlta Open House – Proposed Planning Amendments

TransAlta Open Houses: Proposed Changes to the Highvale End Land Use Area Structure Plan and Parkland County Land Use Bylaw

TransAlta is inviting interested residents to attend an upcoming open house on Tuesday, July 29 or Wednesday, July 30 to learn how TransAlta’s proposed changes to local land use plans could bring new types of development, like data centres, to Parkland County.

Specifically, TransAlta is proposing changes to the Highvale End Land Use Area Structure Plan (ASP) and the Parkland County Land Use Bylaw (LUB) to allow for the potential development of data centres at the Keephills and Sundance Generating station sites.

The ASP and LUB changes are an early step in the process that would allow a company to submit a data centre development application for Parkland County to review in the future. It is expected that any data centre proposals would also include a provincial review process. Should a proposal come forward, there will be multiple opportunities for the community to engage and provide input on the specific development opportunity.

The open house is an opportunity for interested parties to review TransAlta’s proposed amendments to Parkland County’s ASP and LUB, ask questions and share input.
