An Interactive Guide to Land Use Jurisdiction in Parkland County

Parkland County's Interactive Guide is designed to help you navigate land use regulations and understand which levels of government have jurisdiction over different land uses. The map below is interactive. To learn more about each use type, click on the icons, or open the side panel on the left to view the map legend for a full list of land uses.

 

Where can I find more information about land use in Parkland County?
  • Municipal Development Plan (MDP): A high-level plan that establishes a vision for the future for the County's growth for the next 30 years. 
  • Area Structure Plans (ASPs): Detailed policies for growth and future land use designations of specific areas of the County. 
  • Land Use Bylaw (LUB): A regulatory document that governs development activities in Parkland County by establishing land use districts and ensuring compatibility between neighbouring land uses.

FAQs

You can select the different sections of the map one of two ways:

  1. By selecting the menu on the top left-hand side. Once open, a full list of all the land uses pops up and you can select them to view a detailed page with a breakdown of the regulators and contact information. Simply select the menu again to view a different area, or use the ‘X’ icon to return to the main Interactive Guide view.
  2. By selecting the land use category on the map. Once clicked, a pop up will appear with a brief description, you can then select ‘Click for more information’ to view a detailed page on the land use with a breakdown of the regulators and contact information.

To zoom in and out on the map or regulators pages, use the magnifying glass icons on the bottom right-hand side of the map. 

Once you have zoomed in on the view, use the side-to-side and up-down scroll bars to move around the map.
