National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action
- The 94 Calls to Action (CTAs) are actionable policy recommendations meant to aid the healing process in two ways: acknowledging the full, horrifying history of the residential school’s system, and creating systems to prevent these abuses from ever happening again in the future.
'The Orange Shirt Story' Display Begins September 26
Beginning Friday, September 26, 'The Orange Shirt Story' by Phyllis Webstad will be displayed as a StoryWalk in the trails at Coal Diamond Sports Park, Wabamun & at Prospectors Point.
The story is a true account of Phyllis Webstad, a residential school survivor, who had her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at school.
This event symbolized the stripping away of Indigenous children's identity and connection to their culture within the residential school system.
