Alberta Government Provides Update on Safety Improvements at Key County Intersections

Following ongoing advocacy by Parkland County and concerned area residents, the Alberta Department of Transportation and Economic Corridors has provided an update on planned safety improvements at two major intersections as part of ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety.

“We are listening to the concerns of our residents and remain committed to doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors,” said Parkland County Mayor, Allan Gamble. “We welcome this update from the Government of Alberta and will continue to collaborate with them as we advocate for timely progress on both projects.”

The Province has shared that the following developments are progressing at the intersections of Highway 16 and 16A with Range Road 20:

  • Improvements to the Highway 16A and Range Road 20 intersection are moving forward. The work will involve closing Range Road 20 access at Highway 16A and redirecting traffic through the construction of new service roads to the Highway 16A and Range Road 15 intersection. Design is underway for the new service roads and additional improvements. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, and it is anticipated to take approximately two years to complete.
  • An interchange is being planned for the intersection at Highway 16 and Range Road 20.The Department of Transportation and Economic Corridors is in the process of engaging engineering consultants to undertake design work, and they are expected to be in place by early 2026. Although the construction funding for the interchange is not currently included in the Provincial Construction Program, the engineering will be completed and land acquisition secured for the work to proceed when funding becomes available.
