Acheson / Big Lake Basin 1 Storm Design Preliminary Design Report
In January 2013 Parkland County completed the Acheson / Big Lake Basin 1 Storm Design Preliminary Design Report.
The report refined stormwater drainage concepts presented in the Master Drainage Plan documents for lands in the Fenceline Approval’s Basin 1 that lie south of the CN rail line including portions of Acheson Zone 4 and all of Acheson Zones 5,6,7 and 8. It was recommended a storm system that consisted of primarily pumped stormwater management facilities connecting to shared forcemain collector trunks and a gravity outfall trunk along Highway 60 to convey stormwater to an engineered wetland located in Lois Hole Provincial Park near Big Lake.
Between 2015 and 2017, following the recommendations made in the 2013 preliminary design report, Parkland County constructed:
- a 4.5 km Gravity Outfall Trunk and engineered wetland,
- a 0.8 km Stage 1 Gravity Collector Trunk,
- a 2.5 km Stage 1 Collector Force main, and
- a 1.2 km Stage 2 Gravity Collector Trunk.
Acheson/Big Lake Basin 1 Stormwater Summary Report
In March 2018 Parkland County completed the Acheson/Big Lake Basin 1 Stormwater Summary Report. This summary report:
- Consolidates and summarizes previous master plans, preliminary designs, detailed designs, approvals and record drawings to provide a concise record of the latest planned and constructed stormwater infrastructure within Acheson’s stormwater drainage Basin 1 area as of March 2018,
- Details how Basin 1 stormwater is collected and conveyed to the Fenceline Approved Outfall location at Big Lake,
- Contains as-built design information for infrastructure in place as of March 2018, and,
- Contains preliminary design information including sizing, general location and elevations of stormwater management facilities, facility discharge method as well as facility outlet pipes, collector pipes and outfall pipe sizes, elevations and general routings.
