Mayor Rod Shaigec

My family’s roots in Parkland County run deep, stretching back to the early 1900s. For four generations, we’ve proudly called this community home. I was born and raised on a family farm, where I learned the values of hard work, honesty, and helping your neighbours—principles that have guided me through more than 30 years of volunteerism and public service.

From 2010 to 2021, I had the honour of serving as Mayor, collaborating with a dedicated team of Councillors to strengthen and grow our community. I have learned that a cohesive Council, built on respect, collaboration, and open communication, is key to achieving success for all residents. I believe in leading with integrity, transparency, and accountability, and in making thoughtful, common-sense decisions that reflect the voices of our citizens.

Outside of public service, I cherish time with family and friends and enjoy being outdoors, appreciating the unique landscapes and rural character that make Parkland County such a special place to live.

As Mayor, my priorities focus on good governance, affordability, strong infrastructure, environmental responsibility, and a vibrant local economy—ensuring Parkland County remains a place where families thrive and future generations are proud to call home.

Sally Kucher Johnson

Division 1 Councillor
sally.johnson@parklandcounty.com

I grew up on a farm north of Edmonton, but Parkland County, Division 1, has been my home for the past 26 years. My involvement in the community began at Graminia School, where I volunteered while my children attended. That led to serving on the school council and eventually working at the school itself. With strong community support, I was elected as a Parkland School Division Trustee and proudly served two terms. I’m now in my second term as a County Councillor.

Before stepping into public service, I earned a Criminology degree from the University of Alberta and worked with some of the most vulnerable members of our society. That experience taught me the importance of compassion, advocacy, and human connection—values I carry into my role today.

Throughout my years of service, I’ve remained focused on representing the voices and values of our community. I believe in listening, learning, and working together to make decisions that reflect the needs of our residents.

I love rural living and everything it offers—nature, hiking, farming and the deep sense of community that comes with it. I’m passionate about building a strong, connected future for Parkland County and the people who call it home.

Jason Doucette

Division 2 Councillor
jason.doucette@parklandcounty.com

I moved to Parkland County with my family in 2014, and since then, I’ve been a strong advocate for our community, speaking out against issues that impact our quality of life.

I served as the Manager of Solid Waste Services at Parkland County from 2009 to 2022. Today, I provide consulting services to municipalities and businesses, offering expertise in solid waste, recycling, and environmental issues. I’m also the founder of Alberta Competitive Fly Fishing, where I coach anglers looking to enhance their fly-fishing skills.

In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of outdoor pursuits and advocate for the conversation of natural landscapes. I also take pride in providing skills coaching for youth softball.

My priorities as Councillor focus on resident-centered representation, emphasizing fiscally responsible decision-making, and being a voice for balance and accountability in Council’s processes and spending. Other priorities include:

  • Supporting collaboration with other municipalities to identify cost savings and opportunities.

  • Promoting the continual improvement of County-provided services.

  • Advocating for protections that help Parkland County property owners maintain the quality of life they’ve invested in.

  • Supporting sustainable growth within the Acheson Business District to ensure its long-term viability.

  • Promoting the implementation and conservation of natural features and buffers in future developments.

I am truly honoured to be serving the members of Division 4 Parkland County this upcoming term.

I was born and raised in Parkland County, attending Keephills, Duffield, and Memorial Composite High School. After graduation, I worked for several years on farms throughout Division 4 while continuing my post-secondary education at MacEwan University. My passion was policing, and I was accepted into the RCMP in 2004, spending 6 months training in Regina. Throughout my RCMP career, I was posted in Fort McMurray, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Breton, Thorsby, Wetaskiwin, and Federal Policing (Covert Ops) in Edmonton I held numerous roles but found my most rewarding position to be Detachment Commander. I had the opportunity to work with all levels of government in my career.

I enjoy farming, camping and snowmobiling in my off time. I try to fit some fishing in there, too!

As a member of Parkland County Council, my priorities include improving public safety by utilizing the resources we have but also looking to augment those. Also, I heard you loud and clear—we need to spend time to see where we can improve our roads and infrastructure.
