What is a Community League?

A Community league is a volunteer organisation not-for-profit organization that is formed to meet the unique needs and interests of residents within a geographic area.

A Community League:

  • An autonomous body, registered under the Societies Act with Corporate Registries of Canada
  • Has an elected board that speaks on behalf of their members
  • Reports on behalf of the residents residing within the community it serves
  • Brings people together
  • Provides recreation and social programs
  • Develops amenities
  • Represents community interests to government and other organizations.

There are 26 community leagues throughout the County that provide rental facilities and recreation amenities. We've sorted them by general area below. Be sure to reach out to the community league directly with specific questions and/or booking needs.

Looking to get involved in your area? Joining a community league is a great place to start!
Together We Thrive - Wabamun Community Development Project

The Public Engagement for the Wabamun Vision Plan listed the following community supports needed in the area:

  • Repurposing and increased utilization of Jubilee Hall
  • Grants for arts, recreation and cultural events as an incentive
  • Community League as a support
  • Community Event incentives
  • Activities such as winter recreation, recreation for youth and seniors

Some of the key findings in the Wabamun Vision engagements related to the need for additional recreation and culture programs as well as community support(s). Could a new community league help to fulfill these identified needs?

Engagement stage is now complete. Next steps will be posted here once the information gathered has been analysed.

UPDATE - Feb 08, 2024

Based on the feedback we heard, there is some interest to form a community league, but people want more information. We will be hosting an information session on Wednesday February 21, 2024 at 6:30pm - 7:30pm at the Wabamun Community Centre (former village office). Meeting will start with a short presentation, including a summary of the survey results, followed by an open Q&A session.

The outcome from this session will be to kick off a steering committee of committed residents who would like to work on creating a community league. Application forms to be part of the steering committee will be available at the meeting and online following the meeting. We will require 5-7 people to form this committee, if we do not get enough interest, we will pause and re evaluate in 1 year time.
