Whether you need to control a large patch of weeds in your field or a small patch near your home, we can help.  Parkland County’s Agriculture and Environment Services has two types of sprayers available for residents to rent: towable sprayers and backpack sprayers. In addition to rental equipment, we have staff who can advise on the most effective weed control solutions, including specific herbicides.

For larger sections, towable boomless sprayers are a more efficient option. Our boomless sprayer has a 300-gallon (1.135.6L) tank and two nozzles covering a 30–40-foot (9.1-12.2 m) spray distance (15-20 feet spray on either side). On average a full tank can spray about 15-20 acres (6.07 -8.09 ha); however, depending on speed and pressure, this number can vary. Additional features of the boomless sprayer include a gas-powered pump along with 100 feet of hose and a handgun for those harder to reach areas or for spot application.  Due to the engines' low oil level shut off, it is not suitable for steep hills. The sprayer can be hitched to a truck or tractor using a pin-type hitch, which can be supplied if needed. Please keep in mind, as the boomless sprayers are farming implements, they are limited to 40kph during transport. Agriculture Services has two boomless sprayers available for rent at the Agriculture Services Building, for $60.00 per day plus GST.

*All equipment rentals require a signed agreement as well as a deposit, which varies based on equipment. Additional fees such as cleaning charges and repairs may apply. Equipment is charged for each day, inclusive of weekend days and holidays /office closures. Fees are described in our Fees and Charges bylaw and are available to access on the Parkland County website at https://www.parklandcounty.com/feesandcharges

Advanced notice for renting a sprayer is required, and residents can inquire about rentals by calling 780-968-8467 or emailing agriculture@parklandcounty.com, to ensure staff are on-site and available to assist.

If you can, plan ahead and take advantage of the spring to get the best control of your weeds as many herbicides work the best when the weeds are actively growing. If you know what herbicide you are going to use, follow the label.
