Lakemere 4-H Club Reporter Feature
Thanks to Club Reporter, Julie Kuelken, we received an update about all the great events happening at the Lakemere 4-H Beef Club. To kickstart the 4-H year, the club invited families to come to the Muir Lake Hall for dinner and to learn about the club and all the programs being planned for the year.
They want to ensure residents are aware that May 21 is a big Achievement Day as part of the Stony Plain & District 75th Annual Beef, Sheep and Poultry Achievement show and sale. The 4-H Beef Club for Lakemere and Duffield will be participating with beef, lamb and poultry this year.
In their lead up to this important date, members raise and show steers and lambs for 200 days to get them ready for auction. Julie’s market steer is named Pretty Boy Floyd, and she is also working with a show heifer named Bean and will work with newborn calf due to be born in April. Julie’s mom Lindsay said, “I am so proud of Julie’s achievements and seeing all the members as they learn and grow through our 4-H club. I can’t wait to watch as she prepares for the Achievement Day! Please be sure to join on us on May 21st and call our club anytime to connect with Chris Bowman at 780-497-2466 if you have questions.”
4-H members from ages 9 to 21 are taught to halter brake, work on leading, building a bond, and grooming for different classes of showmanship. From woodworking projects to fiber arts, and club communications to vet sciences, their members are provided a wide range of options to diversify their knowledge and build confidence in the agricultural community. For this and other events, be sure to check out Parkland County’s community calendar.
