Thank You!
We would like to thank the Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) for their funding contributions towards the Jackfish Lake Naturalization project.
Public Engagement Feedback
At the start of March, residents were asked to weigh in on three naturalization options that were proposed for the Jackfish Lake Day Use area. We asked the residents to rank which of the proposed naturalization options they preferred from the most to the least liked option (e.g., first choice, second choice, and third choice) and...
THE RESULTS ARE IN!
A total of 94 resident responses were compiled. Results for the three options were close (refer to Option Ranking table), however, the majority of the residents chose Option 3: Plant larger trees and shrubs, no interpretive trail.

SWOT Analysis
The majority of residents used this opportunity to convey their concerns about Jackfish Lake and to relay their ideas on ways to improve the functionality of the area. The table below outlines the general views of residents, with common themes organized by strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) relative to Jackfish Lake.
End Result
Since the ranking of the three options were so close, with no clear front-runner, we have decided to implement aspects of some of the other options into Option 3. The main focus of Option 3 will still be on planting more mature plants so the area looks like it is further along in the naturalization process. However, we will be adding more interpretive signs on site to illustrate the different aspects of the naturalization project and have added an interactive component to the signage for the public to engage with.
Our Next Steps
-
Finalize planting design and develop interpretive signage
-
Implementation of naturalization to be completed in late May with a volunteer planting and pollinator habitat (bee box building) event
The results of this initiative will provide a demonstration of environmental restoration and showcase the multiple values of continued naturalization projects on County lands.
