What is FireSmart?
FireSmart™ Canada is a national program that helps Canadians increase neighborhood resilience to wildfire and minimize its negative impacts. It was founded over 20 years ago to address common concerns about wildfire in the wildland urban interface - areas where human development meets or intermingles with the natural environment, like Parkland County.
Why is FireSmart important?
FireSmart™ Canada develops programs that provide residents with tools to be better prepared when wildland fires occur to keep our homes and community safe. With a changing climate, the threat of wildland fire has increased significantly for everyone; we all have a part to play when it comes to preparing for wildland fire. The FireSmart program empowers residents to make small but important changes around your home and property to reduce the negative impacts of wildland fire.

Free FireSmart Home Assessments
County residents can get a free FireSmart Home Assessment to learn how to protect their homes from wildfires. Each assessment takes about 30-45 minutes, and it's important that you're there too.
Our FireSmart experts will:
1. Tour the outside of your house and yard for things that increase your risk during a wildfire.
2. Provide a customized report based on what they see with actions on how to reduce the risk of damage by wildfire.
3. Share helpful tips to make your home less susceptible against wildfires.
If you've completed the suggested safety improvements in the report, you can ask for another assessment later if you wish.
Each FireSmart assessment completed in the month of August will be automatically entered to win a Fire Safety Prize Package including a Wasp Wildfire Protection Kit ($230 retail value). *Offer open to Parkland County residents only, winner will be randomly selected.
