The Tax Rate Bylaw sets property tax rates for property owners. Property taxes are determined by multiplying individual property assessment values by the tax rates.

Council sets the tax rate based on the required revenue needed to pay for County services. Individual assessments and taxes usually change each year due to the requirements of the annual budget and year-to-year changes to property values.

Alberta Education requisition

Each year, Parkland County receives a requisition from Alberta Education. The County must collect these funds and send them to the Province. The funds support public and separate schools across Alberta. The Provincial Government also sets an education tax rate for municipalities. Parkland County cannot change the education rates or the requisition amount set by the Province each year.

For more information, visit school support declaration.

Senior services requisitions

The County receives a requisition from the Meridian Foundation and the Evergreens Foundation which provide affordable seniors housing. Under the Alberta Housing Act, the County is required to collect these funds from municipal property owners, similar to the education requisition. Parkland County cannot change this requisition amount.

FAQs

 Are taxes increasing?

On average, residential taxpayers will see a 1.16% increase in their taxes. Remember, each taxpayer is affected differently depending on the market value of the property. On average, non-residential/business property owners will see an decrease of -1.17% in their taxes.

How do taxes work in Parkland Village?

Parkland Village is the only manufactured home community in Parkland County.

In Parkland Village the mobile home owner owns their manufactured mobile home but not the land that it resides on. The manufactured mobile home owner must still pay property tax on the manufactured mobile home.

Property tax is not included in the monthly lot rent that the home owner pays to the owners of the manufactured mobile home park. Property tax must be paid to Parkland County.

Why is the tax rate set late in the year?

The annual operating budget is approved in January annually. The bylaw to set the tax rate can only be approved after all the requisitions are received. We typically receive requisitions from Alberta Education, the Meridian Foundation, Capital Region Board and the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre in April each year.

 When are taxes due?

Taxes are due on or before June 30.
