A geographic information system (GIS) is a combination of software, hardware, data, methods, and people that we use for mapping.
Discover Parkland is an online, interactive map where you can find County services, facilities, property information, aerial imagery and create your own maps. Read the user manual (PDF) to learn more about the tools on the site.
Parkland County GIS Team
The Parkland County GIS Team uses GIS to:
- locate the coordinates of things like fire hydrants, streets and signs
- compile relevant data to satisfy the needs of County staff and the public
- make informed and effective decisions
- provide efficient delivery of public services through well-organized, effective routes
- improve productivity and enhance current County services
The main tool that we use to share geographic information with the public is an interactive map called Discover Parkland. We also generate pdf maps that can be downloaded and printed.
Below are the PDF maps available for download and printing:
Note: Subdivision maps are no longer offered in a pdf version as they are easily created using the Discover Parkland site.
While a great deal of effort has been made by Parkland County to ensure that our digital data and maps are of the highest quality, it is possible that there are errors, omissions or inconsistencies. The data is continually being updated and enhanced. If you find a problem, please help us correct it by sending a problem report to email@example.com.
Parkland County makes no warranties or guarantees, either expressed or implied, as to the completeness, accuracy or correctness of the information/data portrayed in the web maps and will not accept liability arising from any incorrect, incomplete or misleading information contained therein.
Maps for purchase
If you are not able to access Discover Parkland to make your own free map, you can purchase maps or images (orthophoto) of properties with or without property lines by contacting the Parkland County GIS Team.
We do not have an open data site or policy. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with free data unless you are completing a project for the County and require the information.
Software and tools
We have a full enterprise-wide, centralized GIS. We use the following software and tools to make our interactive map run smoothly:
- ESRI ArcGIS Server, SDE, Desktop
- Latitude Geocortex with the HTML 5.0 viewer
- Safe software - FME is our data manipulation tool of choice
- Trimble Geo 7X GPS units
