  • What We Do
Parkland County recognizes land is a non-renewable resource, we must ensure it is managed, acquired and disposed of in a manner that coincides with the County's strategic plans and initiatives while protecting our greatest asset for future generations.

Municipal Land Management

The County's Municipal Land Management Department oversees the management and disposal of county land and interest in county land. Currently, Parkland County has title to over 1800 properties as well as numerous Crown Dispositions, mineral and surface rights.

Agricultural Land Licensing Program

Parkland County offers Municipal Reserve lands to be licensed for the purpose of agricultural use. Every year the County prepares a list of lands available for Tender as per County Policy C-AG23.
  • 2020 Agricultural Land License Tender - Tender closes May 22, 2020.

Visit our Hay and Grazing page for more information on Agricultural Land Licenses.

Seasonal Docks and Moorings - Provincial Requirements

The Government of Alberta (GoA) requires residents to obtain a Temporary Field Authorizations (TFA) for seasonal boat docks, lifts and swim platforms placed within provincial waterbodies. Both the information guide and provincial application form can be found on the GoA's website.

This means residents who access their seasonal docks, lifts and swim platforms through county land must obtain authorization from the County and include this authorization when applying through the Province.

Steps to apply:

  1. Complete and submit the Authorization to Use County Land - Dock Access form to the County for review and approval.
  2. Email the completed form to landmgmt@parklandcounty.com or drop off at the County Center drop box (located at the front doors, just to the South of the entrance).
  3. Apply for a Temporary Field Authorizations (TFA) through the Province.
How do I know if I own the property or have to go through county land?
  • Find your property on DiscoverParkland.
    • A DiscoverParkland user manual is available on our maps page.
  • County land is identified in pink, so if a pink strip of land appears between your property and the water then county owns the land.
    • If you are still unsure, please email landmgmt@parklandcounty.com.

Leases and Sales of Undeveloped Road Allowances

  • Lease and Sale of Road Allowances - Closed by Ministerial Approved Bylaw.
  • Application to close a road is to be made in writing to the county Land Agent at engineering@parklandcounty.com.

Once road allowances have been closed by Bylaw, they are referred to Municipal Land Management for the completion of the sale or lease, including the annual maintenance of County Leased Lands.

Sale of County Land

Parkland County occasionally receives requests to sell County titled lands; both freehold and reserve. All requests are reviewed for feasibility based on requirements set forth in the Municipal Government Act - MGA and County Policies. Application fees apply.
  • Sale of Designated Reserve Lands.
  • Sale of Freehold County Lands as per the MGA.

License of Occupation - County Land

  • Requests for licenses to use county land are to be made in writing and submitted to Municipal Land Management.

All requests will be required to go through an internal, and occasionally external, review to ensure they comply with requirements set forth in County Policies and the Municipal Government Act. Application fees apply.

For more information on any of the above programs, please contact Municipal Land Management at landmgmt@parklandcounty.com.

Land Interest for Municipal Needs

The County Land Agent works through the County's Engineering Services Department and oversees the acquisitions of the land or interests in land as required for Capital Projects and Corporate Initiatives.
