The accelerated phase-out of coal-fired power generation has serious impacts within Parkland County that will need to be offset by new economic development.
Some myths that need to be addressed:
Converting local plants to natural gas will not completely save the jobs lost to coal.
Natural gas plants will only need 50% of the current plant employment to run.
Parkland County is not looking for government to pay back the revenues the County is losing.
Parkland County is looking for reasonable, needed infrastructure investment that will allow us to keep attracting new businesses.
