2021 Election Updates - Ministerial Order No. MSD065/21
On August 6th, the Minister of Municipal Affairs issued a Ministerial Order which allows for the following:
- The conduct of the senate election and referendum questions is approved in conjunction with the municipal election;
- The notice to First Nation Band Council will be delivered as per the LAEA to inform about the Senate Election and referendum questions ; and that the First Nation Band Council will make the notice available to the members of the First Nation Band. For Parkland County this is the Paul First Nation 133A and 133B, and Enoch Cree Nation 135;
- The LAEA is altered to include Federal “Indian Status” or local “band cards” as acceptable form of identification to vote in the Senate Election and any referendum questions;
- The LAEA is altered to include being a resident outside of the local jurisdiction as justification for a special ballot.

Council approves the use of Special Ballots in the 2021 Election.
On July 13, 2021, Council approved the use of Special Ballots for the 2021 Election in accordance with the Local Authorities Election Act.
Eligible electors may begin the process to obtain a special ballot beginning on August 1, 2021 by contacting the Returning Officer via phone or email.
All provisions of the special ballot process will be in accordance with the Local Authorities Election Act.

Council approves Bylaw 2021-02 a bylaw to amendment the Electoral Boundaries.
On February 9, 2021, Council approved Bylaw 2021-02 Electoral Boundary Bylaw, a bylaw to amend the electoral boundaries in accordance with Order of Councils received by Parkland County.
December 2020, Parkland County received Order in Council 381/2020 (City of Spruce Grove Annexation) and Order in Council 386/2020 (Wabamun Dissolution) resulting in boundary changes to Division 2 and 5. Council approves amendment to the Parkland County Election Bylaw
On January 26, 2021, Council approved an amendment to the 2020-15 Election Bylaw. The amendment allows for the nomination fee to be paid in-person via credit/debit card payment for this election. In the past the nomination fee could only be received by cash, certified cheque or money order.

Council approves the Parkland County Election Bylaw
On November 24, 2020, Council gave third and final reading to the 2020-15 Election Bylaw. The bylaw establishes conditions and procedures to conduct an election and provides authorization to enter into joint election agreements.
