MDP Frequently Asked Questions
|
Below are archived FAQs from our MDP Review Project.
What is a Municipal Development Plan (MDP)? |
The MDP is a high level planning document that establishes a "Vision" of where Parkland County will be in 30 years. The plan directs all of the future development within the County including residential, industrial and recreational development. This plan will be developed with input from residents and stakeholders. It will create polices for future land use, infrastructure and transportation requirements and environmental areas for protection. |
Why do we need an MDP? |
Under the Municipal Government Act, Parkland County is required to adopt a Municipal Development Plan. |
Why are we updating the MDP? |
The current MDP in Parkland County was adopted in 2007 and is now outdated. The new Municipal Development Plan will reflect the current state of the County, current legislation and future direction for growth. |
Why is the MDP important to residents? |
The Municipal Development Plan sets the future growth direction for the County by identifying where growth will occur over the next 30 years. |
Where are we in the process? |
The MDP Project started in 2013. Since then a great amount of work has gone into completing the necessary reports and studies to assist in the MDP update (see a list of available documents). Residents have participated in a number of engagement events, including open houses, workshops, surveys, and more. The final phase of the MDP project will see the completion of the draft MDP and the opportunity for residents and stakeholders to review and comment on the draft document. |
What is the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Growth Plan? |
The Edmonton Metropolitan Region Growth Plan (Growth Plan) was created by the Capital Region Board - a group of 13 municipalities in the Edmonton Area. Parkland County is a member municipality of the Capital Region Board. The Growth Plan is the long-term plan for growth for the Edmonton Capital Region. The Growth Plan will be formally approved by the Province of Alberta in Spring 2017. As a member municipality, Parkland County's MDP will need to conform to all regulations in the Growth Plan and cannot pass an MDP that does not conform to the Growth Plan. |
How can I be involved? |
In 2017, the Project Team will be attending various events around the community to raise awareness about the final phase of the MDP project and to answer any questions residents may have. Residents can sign up for the MDP mailing list to receive the latest updates, attend the Open House Sessions, or submit their feedback to the Project Team.
