An overview of the past year and a look ahead at what's to come in 2022.
A message from your Council
2021 saw change and growth in Parkland County, including the election of a new council. We’re excited to serve you and work together for the success of our great community. We have a strong foundation to build on, and we’re pleased to highlight the County’s achievements this past year and plans for the future.
It has been nearly a year and a half since we warmly welcomed the former Village of Wabamun into Parkland County, and work continues to occur behind the scenes to ensure a successful transition of operations. The County is now preparing a long-term approach for Wabamun and making investments in
local infrastructure, including the new fire hall.
Around the County, we can celebrate the successful completion of a number of infrastructure projects – the new Entwistle Community Recreation Centre has opened its doors, and the Parkland County Transfer Station has been expanded. We are working on a plan for major capital investments in Acheson and other areas, such as our many trails and recreation areas. This plan will support residents, visitors, and investors in the region. We are proud to be investing in the future of broadband internet service, a necessary utility, and we anticipate many benefits as we keep our residents and local business community connected.
While 2021 was a successful year for the County, it was also a challenging year. COVID-19 has continued to present issues, and we’re looking forward to moving ahead as life returns to normal.
Parkland County also dealt with containing a wildfire west of Tomahawk in the summer of 2021, and continues to monitor the situation.
Council continues to use our financial resources prudently and keep taxes reasonable. This year, the median residential taxpayer will see a 2.5% increase in their taxes while the median nonresidential/business property owners will see an increase of 2.39% in their municipal taxes. Remember, each taxpayer is affected differently depending on the market value of the property.
Parkland County continues to be a vibrant and resilient county, in a strong fiscal position. Our home is an amazing place to live, work and play, and we are ready to embrace whatever the future holds for our community.
