Ownership of small acreages, hobby farms and recreational properties is growing in Alberta. More and more, acreage owners are searching for information and support for how best to manage their properties in a sustainable manner.

The Green Acreages program, provided by the Land Stewardship Centre offers publications, workshops and incentives developed especially for acreage, hobby farm and recreational property owners. These tools help them with practices that conserve and protect the valuable natural assets associated with their properties.

With funding from Alberta's Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program and support from rural municipalities, the Green Acreages program is now accepting applications from small acreage, hobby farm and recreational property owners. Eligible projects may be funded 50:50 up to a maximum of $2500 per project on a cost-share basis (i.e., property owners must contribute the same or greater cash or in-kind value to the projects). To be eligible, cost-share projects must include helpful management practices that will lessen the impacts of flooding and drought incidents.
