The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act allows you a right of access to:

  • non-personal records held by Parkland County
  • personal records about yourself

Disclosure of all information in the County's possession is subject to this Act.

To request general information about county business or personal information about you, submit a written letter or request for access to information form. Parkland County has 30 calendar days to respond to initial FOIP requests. The Act and/or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) may permit additional time if required.

General Information

If you are asking for general information:

  • describe what you are looking for in detail
  • include file numbers and dates where possible
  • sign the form
  • Include a $25 application fee
  • mail, email or deliver in person to the Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) Coordinator

Processing your request begins when the application fee is received. If the total fee for completing your request is estimated to be greater than $150, you will be notified and asked to pay a 50% deposit. Processing the request is suspended until the deposit is received.

When the request is completed, you will be notified of the actual costs and will be required to pay any balance due before your records are provided to you.

Personal Information

To request personal information:

  • describe the information about yourself that you wish disclosed
  • include dates, names, aliases, file numbers, etc.
  • sign the form
  • mail, email or deliver in person to the FOIP Coordinator

You are required to provide proof of identity before records containing your personal information are released. There is no fee for personal information unless photocopying charges exceed $10. Parkland County has 30 calendar days to respond to initial FOIP requests. The Act and/or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) may permit additional time if required.

All fees and response times follow the FOIP Act and Regulations.

You may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner if you are not satisfied with our response to your request. The OIPC provides independent reviews of decisions made by a public body and resolves complaints made under the FOIP Act.
