The Parkland County Animal Control Bylaw has not been updated since 2015. The opportunity to update the bylaw, provided time to look practically at enforcement issues, update language, and promote responsible animal ownership.
Below you will find the major changes to the existing Bylaw with specific changes outlined in the table.

Animal Control Bylaw No. 2015-09 |
Proposed Changes |
▪ Definitions: Abandoned Animal, Animal Shelter, Off-Leash Area and Service dog. ▪ Backyard Chickens: clause has been added with very specific regulations outlining the process for pursuing cooping chickens. ▪ Vicious Dog Section: This section has been completely reworded and outlines the responsibilities of owning vicious dog(s). It also provides for clearer enforcement should the bylaw be breached. ▪ All sections have been enhanced to articulate the responsibility of animal ownership including Nuisance animals, Licencing and Animal Cruelty. ▪ Agricultural Operations: Owners who use their land for Agricultural operations may be eligible, with approval of the County, to have more than 4 dogs if those dogs are a necessary part of their business ▪ Peace Officers can use discretion while assessing a situation and may use education and awareness before using enforcement measures. ▪ Any reference to Schedule “A” is now the Fees and Charges Bylaw
