Parkland County Council approves 2022 budget
PARKLAND COUNTY, AB – Council approved the 2022 operational and capital budgets at Tuesday’s Council Meeting.
“We are grateful to previous members of Council and Administration for their excellent work in putting the County in a strong financial position,” said Mayor Allan Gamble, “Council understands that many difficult decisions were made to get the County here, and we respect and understand that this will have to continue to keep the County in a strong financial position.”
Mayor Gamble went on to say ‘“the County’s Net Financial Asset position is about $64 million, and the County’s debt is at less than 25% of the allowable limit. This puts the County in a better position to deal with any future economic uncertainties that may come up. Council will ensure the County continues to operate efficiently to meet the needs of residents and the business community.”
“Despite the declining linear property assessment and a high expected inflation, Administration has worked diligently to put together a budget that has a modest tax increase to maintain service levels for residents and businesses,” said Interim CAO, Laura Swain. “This was possible because of the cost-saving measures Administration has undertaken in the past few years. The 2022 budget will focus on road and infrastructure maintenance, a sustainable and healthy economy, and a safe and secure community for our residents and the business community.”
Overall, the 2022 budget contains a municipal tax requirement of $62.8 million (excluding RCMP funding, the Tri Leisure Centre, and the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board program recoveries), which is $230,700 less than the 2021 budget and represents a 0.4% decrease in the municipal tax levy.
The average residential property owner will see an increase of 2.5% or $51 per year. The median commercial/industrial property located in Acheson will see increase of 2.53% or $1,114 per year. The municipal tax increase is largely driven by the decline in the County’s property assessment values.
The 2022 municipal operating program budget includes $21,741,700 in revenues (other than taxation); $86,591,400 in expenditures; and a municipal tax requirement of $64,849,700.
The 2022 municipal operating project budget includes $4,548,300 in revenues (other than taxation); $5,281,300 in expenditures, and a municipal tax requirement of $733,000.
The final municipal tax rate will be approved in April 2022.
