Parkland County, AB: Join the Town of Stony Plain, City of Spruce Grove, Parkland County, and the Parkland Area Volunteer Action Committee (PAVAC) this National Volunteer Week for a celebration of community stewardship. The nationwide campaign will take place from April 24 to April 30.

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme is ‘Volunteering is Empathy in Action’. Volunteering develops empathy and connects people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences; it can build our capacity to work collectively and contribute to a vibrant, inclusive society. The local campaign will celebrate the contributions of our region’s volunteers and share information on how we can all work toward a more inclusive and connected community.

“Volunteers are the heart of communities. Each year, we are humbled by the compassion of our local volunteers and inspired by their commitment to improving our community,” says Town of Stony Plain Mayor William Choy. “To all our volunteers, thank you for everything you have and continue to do for those around you. Your empathy inspires all of us to work together to build communities where everyone can feel happy, healthy, and welcome.”

“The Tri-Municipal Region is home to hundreds of genuine, thoughtful, and kind-hearted individuals,” says City of Spruce Grove Mayor Jeff Acker. “Daily, these residents volunteer their spirit, energy, and time to help improve the lives of individuals and enrich our communities. To all volunteers, thank you for your continued, immeasurable dedication to our community through some very challenging times.”

“We continue to be inspired by the generosity of those who step forward to volunteer in our community,” says Parkland County Mayor Allan Gamble. “These are tough times for many, and when our county’s volunteers selflessly dedicate their time and talents to lift up others, it sends a ripple of hope throughout the Tri-Municipal Region. Thank you to our volunteers, we are grateful for your service.”

Local volunteers are invited to a night of volunteer appreciation at Heritage Park on April 28 from 3:30PM to 6:30PM. The evening will be a relaxed gathering for volunteers to drop-in to mingle and pick up a special gift of appreciation. The event is free, but registration is required to receive a gift and quantities are limited to the first 350 registrants. Organizations and volunteers can pre-register to receive a gift beginning March 29. Volunteers unable to attend the event will also have the chance to pick up a gift from Wabamun Town Office or Spruce Grove FCSS on April 26.
