Parkland Fire Chief speaks about the Jasper recovery with CBC Radio

The Jasper fire is now under control and the time has come for residents to pick up the pieces and start over.

 Brian Cornforth is sifting through the ashes in Jasper, hoping to find his mother’s wedding rings in the wreckage of her house. The CBC’s Allison Dempster met Cornforth in the fire-ravaged town, where people who have lost everything are taking the first steps on the road to recovery.

FireSmart Community Clean Up

Residents of the Village of Spring Lake recently took part in a community clean up event as they work toward becoming a FireSmart recognized neighbourhood.

The event kicked off with an info session on the FireSmart program – its principles, why they are important, and how they can be applied. After a BBQ lunch, the residents and a crew from Parkland County Fire Services got to work by clearing out a local wooded trail of debris and vegetation while trimming trees. Fire Advisory For Parkland County

Parkland County is currently under a Fire Advisory.

Open fires are allowed but residents are reminded to be extra vigilant. Soaking the area adjacent to fire pits and burning barrels with water is recommended. Fire permits may be restricted.

Larger brush and slash fire permits may be restricted.
