Proposed Shotgun, Muzzle Loader and Crossbow Hunting Season

Parkland County has fielded a number of questions and concerns since Council earlier this year rescinded bylaw 44-97, a bylaw to prohibit the discharge of guns or other firearm in any specified part or parts of Parkland County. At the same time the bylaw was rescinded, Council also indicated its support for the Sustainable Resource Development (SRD) Fish and Wildlife Division implementation of a shotgun, muzzle loader and crossbow hunting season in Parkland County for the portions of the county that fall within Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) 248.

To address concerns and obtain community input, Parkland County hosted a public meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Garden Valley Community Hall. Representatives from Sustainable Resource Development, Fish and Wildlife Division, were also on hand to answer questions regarding the specifics of the hunting season as well as enforcement issues related to the Wildlife Act.

The following report was prepared by the meeting facilitator and contains a summary of the meeting, the consulation results including comments and concerns raised by the attendees, and next steps: Proposed Shotgun, Muzzle Loader and Crossbow Hunting Season Report.
