Photography Contest

HEY, PARKLAND! SHOW US YOUR COUNTY!

We want to see Parkland County through the eyes of our residents and invite you to submit photos as part of the 2009-2010 Parkland County Photography Contest!

From December 1, 2009 to November 23, 2010, we will be accepting photographs from our residents that may be used in future Parkland County publications, including a calendar with all 12 winning photos.

NOTE: Contest is open to Parkland County Residents ONLY.

ELIGIBILITY: The Parkland County Resident Photography Contest is open to all residents of Parkland County including adults (18 and up) and youth (17 and under). There is no special category for youth photos.

A Parkland County resident includes people who live in Parkland County. This does not include people living in municipalities within Parkland County. This means people who live in the Town of Stony Plain, City of Spruce Grove, and other villages or summer villages within Parkland County are NOT eligible.

PHOTO ELIBILITY:
Photos must be taken within Parkland County.  Note: photos taken in municipalities within Parkland County are NOT eligible. This means photos taken in the Town of Stony Plain, City of Spruce Grove, and other villages or summer villages within Parkland County do not qualify for the contest.

TIMELINES: The photography contest runs from December 1, 2009 to November 30, 2010. The contest is broken down into four phases representing the different seasons. At the end of each phase, submissions will be judged and winners selected and announced with the launch of the next phase.

PRIZES: During each phase, three photographs will be selected for a prize package valued at $250 each. At the end of the contest, the twelve winning photographs will be used in a special edition Parkland County Calendar.

Phase 4 - September 1 – November 23, 2010
“Falling for Parkland County”

When the calendar changes to September, thoughts immediately turn to the first day of school, harvest, Thanksgiving, Halloween and more. The reds and gold of turning leaves create a majestic and beautiful backdrop to the bounty of fall in Parkland County.

Starting September 1st, we are accepting fall-themed photos in the following categories:

  • Animals and Nature
  • Landscape
  • Parks and Tourism
  • Sport and Recreation
  • Celebration
  • Miscellaneous

SUBMISSIONS: Entries must be submitted as a digital JPG file and submitted electronically through email. Images can also be burned onto a CD and delivered to Parkland County Centre. All entries must be followed up with a printed copy of the image and a completed entry form including location of photograph.

To be considered in the contest, all submissions must be original, unpublished photographs taken of or within Parkland County. Photographs previously published in full or in part in any other publication, contest, etc., will be disqualified.

There is no limit to the number of entries per person. Each photograph must be submitted in JPEG format and must include a separate completed entry form and a printed copy of the photograph.

Photos can be submitted by email to: photos@parklandcounty.com or burned onto a cd and dropped off at Parkland County Centre.

IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Horizontal images must be at least 1500 pixels wide
  • Vertical images must be at least 1500 pixels tall
  • Photos should be 300 dpi
  • Compositional changes to digital files are not acceptable and will be disqualified; tonal or colour cast corrects are acceptable


JUDGING: Entries will be judged on originality, overall photographic quality, and their depiction of Parkland County within the established categories and appropriateness within the seasonal theme. Judging for each phase will take place during the following timelines but may be subject to change.

  • Phase 1: February 22 – 28, 2010
  • Phase 2: May 25 – 31, 2010
  • Phase 3: August 25 – 31, 2010
  • Phase 4: November 24 – 30, 2010

*NOTE: Judging and announcement of winners may be delayed depending on number of entries received.

NOTIFICATION: Winners will be notified by telephone and/or email.

RIGHTS: By signing the entry form, the photographer consents to entry of his or her submission and agrees to these Official Photo Contest Rules and the decisions of the judges, which are final and binding in all matters to this contest.

The photographer’s signature grants Parkland County the unrestricted rights to use the photograph for any purpose including, but not limited to, publishing the photo in print or electronic form for promotional use or publication by Parkland County without further compensation, and the right to use the photographer’s name as a credit along with the photograph.

The photographer acknowledges that he/she has obtained permission from all recognizable persons or the parents or legal guardians of minors appearing in the photograph to release the photograph to Parkland County and grants to Parkland County the right to publish the photograph.

All entries and contest materials received become the property of Parkland County and will not be returned.

RESPONSIBILITY: Parkland County will not be held responsible for entries that are lost, damaged or delayed during transportation or electronic submission.
