High Speed Internet - Intelligent Community Project
Internet access. It is no longer a luxury, but has become a necessity for business, education and personal use. In 2008, Parkland County identified internet access for all residents in Parkland County as a priority. But what began as a relatively simple concept – expand affordable, reliable wireless internet access throughout the county – has evolved into a forward-thinking and comprehensive plan that will see Parkland County become an “Intelligent Community,” a community in which broadband technology is fully utilized by residents, businesses and the County for a range of communication, learning, business, marketing and economic development purposes.
Parkland County is preparing to move forward with the next phase of this important initiative. This phase involves the construction of towers throughout the County. These towers will be up to 108m (350ft) in height and nine (9) of them will be constructed in the western area of the County.

Broadband SpeedTest
Parkland County needs to identify the underserved areas of the County.
Underserved areas are geographical areas that currently have access to broadband connectivity, but the network does not have the capacity to support emerging Internet applications.
The result is a noticeable delay when accessing the Internet to do e-mail or access a web page.
In order to identify the underserved areas, we need to have residents conduct a Broadband Speed Test and forward the results to ViTel Consulting Inc.
Parkland County will use this information to assist the area Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) in improving their broadband networks.
Please use the following Speed Test Survey to test your broadband access.

High Speed Internet Study and Survey
Whether it's reduced or no access, or residents coping with tower interference, high-speed internet access is an issue in our community. In this digital age, access to the Internet is becoming less of a luxury item and more of a necessity.
To address this issue, Parkland County is undergoing a complete assessment of internet access. This assessment will include a review of existing providers in our area and will provide direction on how we can improve and expand high-speed internet access throughout Parkland County.
