Road Maintenance

Parkland County’s Public Works department manages the road maintenance program in Parkland County, including dust control, graveling, and pothole patching.  For more information on the road maintenance programs, contact Public Works at 780-968-8448.

Dust Control

Parkland County provides dust control on rural gravel surface roads for residents whose properties meet the guidelines as set forth in the County’s Dust Control Policy.

A 100 meter section of public roadway adjacent to a residence can have a dust control agent applied to it at no cost to the resident if the residence falls within the guidelines.  If the resident requests additional lengths of dust control, there will be a charge for the additional length.  All businesses and residences who do not qualify for the dust control are subject to paying the total cost of any dust control applied.  In these cases, an application form must be filled out by whoever is requesting the dust control.

The dust control program usually commences in late spring and can continue through the summer months.

Road Graveling

The County has a three-year graveling program in place. The intent of the program is to gravel approximately one-third of the gravel road network each year.

The majority of the road graveling is completed during the months of January, February and March. Some minor graveling occurs during the summer months to cover areas that could not be accessed during the winter or to cover areas that deteriorate during the spring thaw and wet periods. Graveling of approaches also occurs during summer.

Pothole Patching

Potholes that develop on hard surfaced roads are a fact of life in our climate. Freeze thaw cycles and rainy weather all contribute to the development of potholes (as does the amount of traffic on a road). The majority of potholes develop around the spring thaw period but do continue to develop in periods when there is a significant amount of moisture.

The County has a dedicated self-contained pothole patching machine that commences work in the early spring and carries on until the fall freeze up. Additional forces are put to work assisting in the pothole repair program during the most prevalent pothole times.

To report a pothole, call 780-968-8454 during regular business hours.
