Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area

New! Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area Operations Advisory Group

There is no doubt that the Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area is one of the gems of Parkland County and the go-to place for horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, trail running, nature watching, canoeing, cross-country skiing, and more. But how are we doing meeting the needs of our user groups? Are there things we could be doing better now and into the future? Are we missing out on some opportunities?

These are just some of the questions Parkland County wants to ask to ensure Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area remains a premiere outdoor recreation destination in the County. But rather than doing a focus group, the County is taking a different tact: forming a new advisory committee.

We’ve conducted a number of studies and focus groups on all the outdoor recreation areas, including Chickakoo, throughout the years, and the input we’ve received in the past has been invaluable. What we are looking for now is ongoing input from the community and the user groups to explore continued opportunities for improvement. This new volunteer advisory committee is an excellent way of gathering input and sharing ideas to ensure Chickakoo meets the current and future needs of our user groups and maximize the potential of the park.

The Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area Operations Advisory Group, a volunteer committee, will be composed of 10 people representing various user groups, including equestrian, mountain biking, hiking, trail running, bird/nature watching, canoeing, and cross country skiiing, as well as a youth representative. Time commitment will be minimal as it is expected the committee will meet only twice a year – in the spring and the fall.
