Assessment Review Board
The Assessment Review Board is a Council appointed board comprised of three councilors and 2 public members that meets as required. Requirement for meetings is determined by the number of complaints received and the details of the committee can be found below.

Purpose
To hear and make decisions on complaints against assessments received by the Clerk of the Board.

Membership
3 Council Members
2 Public Members (preferably one from Electoral Divisions 1-5 and one from Electoral Divisions 6-7)
Term of Office
Council members appointed annually at organizational meeting for the following calendar year.
Public Members appointed for two-year terms commencing in January (maximum of 3 consecutive full terms per member).
Chairmanship
Elected annually by members of the Assessment Review Board at its first meeting.
MeetingsAs required - dependent on number of complaints received.
Terms of Reference
The Assessment Review Board shall conduct itself in accordance with all provisions as set out in Part 11 of the Municipal Government Act.

A council may by bylaw at any time, but must on receiving a complaint under section 461, establish one or more assessment review boards.

The council must
-
appoint a minimum of 3 members to each assessment review board;
-
prescribe the term of office of each member and the manner in which vacancies are to be filled; and
-
prescribe the remuneration and expenses, if any, payable to each member.

The members of each assessment review board must choose a presiding officer from among themselves. |

The council must appoint a designated officer to act as the clerk of the assessment review boards having jurisdiction in the municipality and prescribe the remuneration and duties of that person.

The clerk must not be an assessor. |
