Municipal Planning Commission

The Municipal Planning Commission is an administrative body that makes decisions on applications for Development Permit and subdivision applications.

Legislative Authority

Municipal Government Act.

Reports To

Quasi-judicial.  Body with own authority.

Membership

Three Councillors, four residents at-large, and the Secretary of the Commission.

Term of Office

All members hold office at pleasure of Council.  Council members are appointed annually at the first meeting following the Organization Meeting of Council.  Public members are appointed for three-year terms.

Chairmanship

Chairman and Vice-Chairman appointed by the Commission.  The Vice-Chairperson may preside at the meeting of the Commission in the absence of the Chairperson.

Meetings

Once monthly or as required.

Terms of Reference

By-law No. 34-2011 and amendments thereto.  Decisions guided by:  Municipal Government Act, Parkland County, Municipal Development Plan, Parkland County Land Use By-law, Parkland County Planning Policies, Parkland County Area Structure Plans (if applicable), Provincial Subdivision and Development Regulations, and Provincial Land Use Policies.
